How To Get Rid Of Evil

When encountering evil, there is one best way to deal with it – destroy it completely.  Per God’s instructions, we read:

“These are the decrees and laws you must be careful to follow in the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you to possess—as long as you live in the land.  Destroy completely all the places on the high mountains and on the hills and under every spreading tree where the nations you are dispossessing worship their gods.  Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones and burn their Asherah poles in the fire; cut down the idols of their gods and wipe out their names from those places.   You must not worship the LORD your God in their way.”Deuteronomy 12:1-4

God’s command to the Israelites is clear – they were to completely and utterly destroy any reminder or remainder of the conquered nation’s gods, leaving no symbol or element to their unholy religious practices.

But our society today has a word for this – intolerance!  Some Christians adopt an attitude of saying, “We should respect other people’s religions, and perhaps even learn from them.”  Respect is one thing, but getting too close to other religious or pagan practices is playing with fire.  While it is not politically correct to say so, it seems clear to me that God does not approve of a mindset of tolerance and mutual brotherhood with other religions.  Any religion which does not acknowledge the one true God and Creator can have no place in the lives of Christians.  Our battle should be to teach, preach and remove the practices which do not honor God.

Which is why you won’t see a “Coexist” bumper sticker on my car.
