The Cure for Anxiety

20111118-224951.jpgWe live in a world filled with wonder and designed for personal comfort. It is very likely that we live in an age where there is more free time, more things to entertain us, we have better food – in short, everything is designed to put us more at ease. At least, more at ease with the things that dominate our life in this world.

Yet, at the same time, we send more and more people to counseling for excessive worry and anxiety. How can this be, in a world that offers so much in the way of comfort?

“But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”Jeremiah 17:7-8

These verses make it clear that any life lived without a center and trust in the Lord is bound to be plagued with anxiety. The man who FIRST puts his trust in God will be able to tap into reserves of strength that are unavailable to the self-centered man. In a world that offers so much to take our mind off of God, this is a key lesson.
