Our culture is fascinated by science. New studies tell us how to eat healthy, how to avoid illness, and how best to stay fit. New advances allow us to explore places we have never seen before. Science theorizes the age of the earth, and how ancient man lived his life. And more than ever, the smart people tell us that “the science is settled” about subjects such the origin of the earth, and how climate is changing. But do we REALLY know what we think we know? Today’s verse would suggest otherwise.
This is what the LORD says: “Only if the heavens above can be measured and the foundations of the earth below be searched out will I reject all the descendants of Israel because of all they have done,” declares the LORD.” — Isaiah 31:1-3
God promises that he will abandon His people only when we have figured out all of these earthly things. And guess what? We will NEVER get it all right. That must be true, because He will not abandon His people. Remember this the next time modern science tells you that they have finalized everything there is to know about a subject.
