Cheating Death

The concept of cheating death is a popular one through the ages.  Books are written about it, and fairy tales are told.  Movies are even made about the concept today (think of Star Wars and the temptation given by Palpatine to Anakin to grant the power to do this very thing!)  The concept is addressed in the book of Hosea, too.

“I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death.  Where, O death, are your plagues?  Where, O grave, is your destruction?” Hosea 13:14

This is a clear prediction of the glorious victory that Jesus Christ would one day have over death itself.  I wonder if, in Hosea’s time, anyone really paying attention to these words would be in absolute amazement at the weight of the prediction?  To be “redeemed from death” is an awe-inspiring concept.  And though movies poke at the edges of the concept, we should be aware – it will really happen.  Come, Lord Jesus!

It is a concept that pops up quite often, isn’t it? I find that film, books, television, etc. often find inspiration from Jesus’ life.
