When You Are Not Where You Think You Are…

A clause in the following verse got my attention today.  Do you see it, as well?

Seek good, not evil, that you may live.  Then the LORD God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is.  Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the courts.  Perhaps the LORD God Almighty will have mercy on the remnant of Joseph.” Amos 5:14-15

Of course, God wants us to seek Him and to love what is good, while shunning evil.  And the promise for us is that God will be with us.  The words that stood out to me, are that God will be with us, “just as you say he is.”  This seems to indicate that it is very easy for people to go around saying, “Hey, I’m on the side of right, and God is definitely with me”, when, in fact, that may not be true.  We can be boastful and arrogant and think God is with us, when this is not the case.  Sin, unrepentance, and separation from God can put us in a place where God is NOT with us, and like the Israelites, God must work to put us in a mindset of asking for restoration.
